Three Palms Inn is an ongoing series of photographs about Presidio, Texas and the surrounding Rio Grande region along the Texas/Mexico border. For most of its life the Rio Grande was crossed without thought, particularly in the Presidio area, which has been inhabited for more than a thousand years.
Yet over the last few decades this natural resource, vital to sustaining life in this formidable desert landscape, has become an increasingly fragile line of political demarcation between two countries. Meant to serve as a catalyst for reflection on the natural and cultural landscapes of this borderland region, these pictures are about my exploration of how the river and natural environment, as well as the political culture, have influenced the development of this place.
