Before, Honey was singing as James P Honey and James Reindeer now you became A Band of Buriers which released its first album last April, what is new?
James P Honey and James Reindeer was a purely alternative rap and spoken word project. A Band Of Buriers still has spoken word elements but is predominantly a folk band.

You define your music Folk and Alternative Rap, which is quite an odd combination, how did you get close to this genre? what are your inspirations?
We call it Anti-Rap Alternative Folk and like to think that perhaps we’ve created our own genre. Maybe. The genre actually came about quite naturally from our incredibly different musical backgrounds. Honey, alternative rap and Jamie, classical cello. Jamie started to accompany James P Honey and James Reindeer live and on their recordings and had been playing with folk bands and Honey at the same time had started to write folk music. Eventually we came together as A Band Of Buriers, where all the elements are still alive.
As far as inspirations go – it’s a whole life of listening to music. There are too many to even know where to start. Though the ones that are huge influences for the both of us are Leonard Cohen, Songs:Ohia and Thee Sliver Mt. Zion on the folky side. On the alt rap front, people like Babel fishh, Reindeer and Dug Yuck are all killing it.

I met you as part of Decorative Stamp a collective of musicians, artists, poets, producers, can you talk a bit about it?
Decorative Stamp is like you say, a collective. Founded James P Honey and Reindeer, everything we release is beautiful – be it visually, or audibly. It is made with love and no intention of financial gain. We’re so fortunate to have such an amazing roster of artists and it’s quickly becoming much more than we’d anticipated. Which future developments are you planning?
We will soon be launching a new album king’s land. We’ll also be continuously making videos, taking photos, playing live gigs and penning new songs. All of which you’ll be privy to, of course.

You have a big scene, in the UK, France, Swiss, Germany, Canada. You have been touring a lot and promoting your music with constance and effort. Do you self promote? Have you got any suggestion to give to young musicians which would like to push their career?
Yes, we do everything ourselves. We aren’t signed to a label, and that’s the way we like it. So far we have survived on word of mouth and the help of true friends. ?Here’s our advice:
– don’t be ashamed to ask. Ultimately everybody needs help and the way to get it is by asking;
– have no illusions – it’s incredibly easy to start a band;
– know who you are and what you stand for;
– don’t play shows to the wrong crowds;
– the more you tour, the more you get to tour;
– be a nice person;
– if no one likes your music, you’re probably brilliant. But you won’t find out until you’re gone.
Avete un grande seguito in Inghilterra, Francia, Svizzera, Germania e nel Canada. Avete fatto molti tour e avete promosso la vostra musica con costanza ed impegno. Vi auto-promuovete? Avete dei suggerimenti da dare ai giovani musicisti che vorrebbe spingere la loro carriera?
Si, facciamo tutto da soli. Non siamo sotto contratto con nessuna casa discografica e questo è il modo in cui ci piace. Sino ad adesso siamo sopravvissuti con l’aiuto del passa parola e dei nostri amici.
Il nostro suggerimento è:
– non vergognatevi di chiedere. Alla fine tutti hanno bisogno di aiuto e l’unico modo per averlo è chiedere;
– non fatevi illusioni
– è incredibilmente facile iniziare una band;
– sappiate chi siete e in cosa credete;
– non suonate per il pubblico sbagliato;
– più andrete in tour, più vi sarà richiesto di andare in tour;
– siate belle persone;
– se a nessuno piace la vostra musica, probabilmente siete eccezionali. Ma non lo scoprirete fino a quando ve ne sarete andati.
Where was the best concert you’ve ever done and why was it the best?
That’s a tough one, but the show we played at Hackney Zoo here in London was pretty great. The crowd were incredibly receptive and the setting truly wonderful. Trains passed us poetically through the inky black of the night. And we got to play new songs which is always fun.
Dov’è stato il miglior concerto che avete mai fatto e perché lo considerate il migliore?
Questa si che è una domanda difficile, ma il concerto che abbiamo fatto all’Hackney zoo qui a Londra è stato grandioso. Il pubblico era particolarmente ricettivo e l’ambientazione veramente eccezionale. Treni passavano poeticamente attraverso il nero inchiostro della notte. E abbiamo potuto suonare pezzi nuovi, il che è sempre divertente.
